History of Chevron in Ecuador:"In a rainforest area roughly three times the size of Manhattan, Chevron carved out 350 oil wells, and upon leaving the country in 1992, left behind some 1,000 open-air, unlined waste pits filled with crude and toxic sludge. Many of these pits leak into the water table or overflow in heavy rains, polluting rivers and streams that tens of thousands of people depend on for drinking, cooking, bathing and fishing. Chevron also dumped more than 18 billion gallons of toxic wastewater called "produced water" - a byproduct of the drilling process - into the rivers of the Orient. At the height of Texaco's operations, the company was dumping an estimated 4 million gallons of per day, a practice outlawed in major US oil producing states like Louisiana, Texas, and California decades before the company began operations in Ecuador in 1967." --

Chevron in Richmond:
"Chevron's Richmond refinery, the single largest stationary source of GHGs in the state, emitted nearly five million metric tons of CO2 in 2008."
"Chevron makes billions of dollars from its California oil. Yet, it has blocked every effort by Californians to get a financial benefit in return."
"California is the only state that fails to impose a tax when that oil is removed from the ground, an "oil severance tax." State fees range from 2% to as much as 12.25% in Alaska on the value of a barrel of oil."
"More than 25,000 people, including those in two public housing projects, live within just three miles of the Richmond refinery. More than a quarter of the residents live below the federal poverty line, and more than 85% of the residents are listed as "minorities" by the U.S. census."
"A 2008 County Asthma Profile found that Contra Costa residents, as compared to all Californians, are hospitalized for asthma at higher rates; have higher death rates due to asthma, particularly among adults ages 65 and older; and have higher rates of visits to the emergency doctor, particularly for children aged 0 to 4 years." Chevron brags about its $1-to-$2 million donations to local non-profits. But these are mere crumbs in comparison to the roughly $40 million126 in additional revenue Richmond would get annually if Chevron paid its fair share of taxes.

Keystone Pipeline:
"The Keystone XL pipeline is a 1,700-mile, $7 billion project that would bring 700,000 barrels of carbon-heavy tar-sands oil per day from Alberta, Canada, to refineries on the Gulf Coast. It would be an extension of a pipeline that became operational in June 2010 and already carries crude oil from Alberta to Illinois and Oklahoma."
