SFMT Thank you for your tremendous support & encouragement
Dear Friends,
October 9, 2013

Oil & Water - cast, band & crew
The warm October days are yielding to mare's tails skies. Sunsets are magnificent, mornings are brisker and holiday décor is taking up major real estate in stores as 2013 begins its wind down. Meanwhile the boneheads in Congress are celebrating the seasonal change with a federal government shutdown. Really?

But here at the Troupe, we are anything but shutdown. Six months ago we thought about cancelling our summer show. But with your tremendous support and encouragement we had a successful summer on a variety of fronts. The idea of two plays in one was welcomed as was our series of community forums with environment activists. Held in our studio, in parks and on the road, these forums have stimulated a plan to continue them year round as an informative call to activism.

With the paralysis in Washington creating a democracy in traction, it is clear that the people (that would be us) have to take it back. So come 2014, the Troupe will be sending that message out louder and clearer than ever.

Until then, Troupers are busy with a variety of projects (see below).

Have a safe Halloween. Don't forget to vote on Nov 5th. And once again accept our deep gratitude for helping us turn a challenging time into a successful season. Collectively, you all continue to rock!

Always in Solidarity,

The San Francisco Mime Troupe & Staff

Velina Brown & Michael Gene Sullivan

Velina has just started rehearsal with Symmetry Theatre on a piece called Carnival Round the Central Figure a trippy, fever dream farce about death. It will open November 3rd at the Live Oak Theatre in Berkeley. The cast includes two others you've seen on the Mime Troupe stage the lovely Lizzie Calogero and handsome favorite Michael Gene Sullivan. If you'd like to know more like Symmetry's Facebook

Also, keep an eye out for more opportunities to see Velina in concert soon.

Keiko Shimosato Carreiro

Aside from auditioning for everything that's out there, Keiko is working on a grant to study "Otome Bunraku" or womens' bunraku in Japan. She seeks to use this skill in a solo piece that she has been working on. Keiko will be teaching musical theater at Paul Revere Middle School in SF this coming spring. They will be presenting, Little Shop of Horrors. Most importantly, she is enjoying her family and watching her son Julian grow up impossibly fast.

Pat Moran

Pat will be performing in Tristan & Yseult coming to Berkeley Repertory Theater in November.

Ed is currently curating the Veterans Voices IV art show at the K gallery at Rhythmix cultural works in Alameda. The gallery show opens 11/8 6-9pm and runs till 1/3. On the gallery opening night, Ed will perform his one man show SUBHUMAN-True Tales from Beneath the Sea in the theater. The show is about his days as a mechanic aboard a diesel submarine in the 60s and has been performed in VFW halls, bars and small theaters from here to Maine. The show is a benefit for the veterans organization The Mission Continues.

Also on 11/30 at Rhythmix, Ed will be part of an evening of poetry and music by Toby Lurie, 88yr old poet/composer/artist.
