Now, more than ever, we need art that speaks truth to power. So join the San Francisco Mime Troupe for a seven week summer workshop on creating social change through theatre. The Summer Workshop guides talented students from around the world by focusing on scenes and excerpts of past and present Troupe scripts. The curriculum, which includes Commedia dell'Arte, American Melodrama traditions, singing, improvisation and ensemble-building, teaches students how to produce a play in the Mime-Troupe style.
We want committed, radical theater makers to spend the summer with us, not only learning our acting and writing style, but working with us in the trenches, setting up and striking our stage on the show days and postering and flyering in advance of shows.
Applicants must pay a $25 application fee. Upon acceptance into the Summer Workshop participants will be required to immediately pay a non-refundable $60 materials fee to cover workshop expenses AND a deposit of $50 which will be returned upon completion of the workshop. Apart from these fees the rest of the workshop is free of charge. No additional money changes hands. Instead we have set up a work exchange program.
WORK EXCHANGEFor every hour of class, there's an hour in the trenches. Therefor participating in the workshop is a sixteen-hour-per-week commitment and some of that time is bound to occur on weekends. If anyone fails to keep up their end of the bargain they will lose their deposit and be asked to leave the workshop.
OPT OUT OF WORK EXCHANGEParticipants may now opt out of the full work exchange and pay $950 for the workshop classes! This is a great option for people who have full time jobs and demanding work schedules. Paying participants will still be required to work at least one full park day approximately 8 hours long. A nonrefundable down payment of $100 will be due upon acceptance into the program and the remaining, nonrefundable, $850 will be due one week prior to the start of the workshop.
