Dear Troupers,
Okay everyone- exhale. The election is over, the people have spoken, the agenda is clear:
Time to get back to Work!
Here at the Troupe we're already at it. With a nod to the Mayan prediction, we celebrate this time as the end of the era of short-sighted stewardship and begin anew by creating exciting shows intended on motivating discussion and inciting action on the most critical issue of our time: the environment. Here's a snapshot of the Troupe's exciting work for 2013, work we can only undertake with your support.
- 2013 Summer Show - We're kicking into high gear for "Oil and Water", inspired to be writing a show about natural resources. Our presidential candidates may have chosen to ignore ecological issues, but the consequences of pollution, climate change, and impending scarcity are as sobering as the call for action is urgent. New this year, we invite you to be part of the learning process with us. As we continue to research these issues and interview experts, we will be regularly posting topical information and perspectives via our website, Facebook and Twitter. Please join our conversation by sharing environmental solutions and local and global actions!
- SFMT Studio Events - This past year we set a goal for ourselves to increase the number of events we hold at our studio performance space and we have been very happy with the results. For 2013 we'll be building upon this success with a mix of original work by the Collective, Emerging Artists in Residence (EAR), musicians, workshop participants and visiting artists. The joint will be jumpin'. Be sure to check our website and e-newsletter to keep up on everything we have going on.
- SFMT Educational Projects - Through the 17th Annual Youth Theater Project and our Young California Writers' Project, SFMT will continue giving local teens the opportunity and skills to voice their perspectives onstage. YTP will dovetail with our summer show as SFMT works with students to develop their own environmentally themed productions. We are recruiting students so if you happen to know any high school students up to the task send them our way!
Plans and energy we've got, money, not so much. 2012 found us in the most acute survival mode yet. Luckily between our fundraising efforts and a generous bequest, we squeaked through. Providing free theater in the parks is getting increasingly expensive. Now, more than ever, we are depending on your focused individual support to sustain our mission. Exercise your power and help SFMT move ahead with another historic season by donating as generously as you are able. Now is our time to proceed with passion, to be progressive, not regressive, together, with all our best interests at heart, especially those of Planet Earth. Onward!
In Hopeful Solidarity,
The San Francisco Mime Troupe Collective
