Greetings!

It's Super Bowl week in San Francisco! Not to be eclipsed by the Iowa caucuses, our fair city has pulled out the stops to make sure everyone has a great time for Super Bowl 50. Great unless you're stuck in traffic or navigating through the teeming masses of visitors yearning to drink beer. But let's face it if you're gonna party, San Francisco is one of the best places to do it. So hold on to your hats locals, it's only going to last a couple of weeks. Meanwhile on our end of town, we've got a pretty active playbook here in Troupelandia. We've just started our 20th year of our Youth Theater Project (YTP), are preparing for our annual fundraising brunch with special guest Jon Carroll and hosting various performances in our studio. And while the nation is feasting on pretzels and dips, we'll take a short time out and then get back on the field with the creation of our summer show, booking a national tour of Freedomland, and beginning an exciting series of workshops with community groups in the Central and Salinas Valleys. So although the Niners didn't make it to the Super Bowl, you can rest assured that your other San Francisco team, SFMT, is ready for a winning season.

SFMT Celebrates 20 Years
of the Youth Theater Project!

We began our Spring 3 month intensive after-school workshops with over 30 Bay Area teens on February 1. The project culminates with a free public performance of their original One Act plays on April 29, 30 & May 1.

In Mime Troupe tradition, YTP gives voice to the issues that most concern our city's teens by mentoring the creation of their plays while simultaneously modeling cross-cultural understanding through this collaborative play making process. The workshop experience fosters an increase in the participant's self-confidence, expands their world view, and leaves them inspired to continue using art as a means of personal and political expression.

YTP is a FREE theater workshop, which provides free meals and a monetary incentive to each student.

We need your help to keep our program FREE of charge for participants. In mid-February we will be launching a YTP IndieGogo Campaign.

Here's how YOU can help:
  1. When it launches- donate to our IndieGoGo Campaign and SHARE
  2. Provide a meal for a YTP class
  3. Get involved- volunteer- spread the word
Please consider sponsoring a YTP teen artist and investing in the activist artists of the future. Contact us at: ytp@sfmt.org

COINTELSHOW: A Patriot Act, by L.M. Bogad

Follow Special Agent Christian White on a cheerfully creepy tour of declassified government surveillance documents. White probes the redacted (blacked-out) texts of the FBI's notorious Counterintelligence Programs, searching for the words erased in the name of the Freedom of Information Act.

Learn fun techniques for the infiltration of activist groups, how to earn benefits and a pension as an agent provocateur, and how to, in the words of J. Edgar Hoover, "expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit or otherwise neutralize" your neighbors!  Read on

Date: Feb 12th & 13th (reception after the show on the 13th)
Time: 8.00pm
Where: Troupe Studio, 855 Treat Ave (tricky street parking)
Tickets: FREE but you must reserve a seat!

Musician Silas Lowe

Here at the Troupe we are always excited to cheer on our alumnae as they continue on their individual paths as activist artists. Such is the case with Silas Lowe who will be performing with his musical partner Andy Lentz in our studio Sunday March 13. Since Silas was with us many years ago as a workshop performer, he has gone on to become one of the most celebrated up and coming songwriter musicians. Cutting his political teeth with the Mime Troupe, he now writes songs that cut to the heart of the disparity in both wealth and justice of our broken system. Although the topics are serious, Silas delivers his message in an upbeat engaging way that will have your face smiling and your toes tapping. Once a Trouper, always a Trouper! Please join us as we welcome back a valued member of our Troupe family. Silas, you make us proud! Read on!
