The Cost of Free - Final Update #3
Dear Trouper,

It's official- the San Francisco Mime Troupe will be back in the parks this summer! Who made it happen? You did! We told you about The Cost of Free. You stepped up. You covered it. And you covered it in a big way! Your response was immediate and overwhelmingly generous. Donations- big and small. Messages -rousing and moving. In a month- $42,000 - which makes possible at least a full month of performances beginning July 4th!!! Awesome! And so we say-

 THANK YOU!

Now it's our turn. Invigorated by your enthusiasm and committed to honor your investment, we're hard at work on Oil & Water, our summer shows. That's right--shows. This summer we're doing something different. Within a larger musical/comedic frame, Oil & Water is actually two shorter plays each stylistically unique but topically linked and musically interwoven. Back to our theatrical grassroots of exaggerated genre and outsized characters, the plays will challenge the dangerous energy practices of both corporations and the rest of us. We'll challenge ourselves by occupying a smaller carbon footprint with our production.

Many surprises are in store. In partnership with environmental activists we'll host lectures and discussions, at shows, in our studio (see below) and on our Oil & Water FaceBook page, along with informational tables at each of our park shows. We might even have some special get-togethers for key supporters like you.

And we're working on adding more weeks to the schedule if donations continue and we can afford to do so. We'll keep you posted.

It's going to be a great summer, thanks to you.

In Triumphant Solidarity,

Community Forum Events
We will be hosting several community forum events over the next few months in our studio space in SF. The purpose of these forums is to have an open discussion on environmental issues with people from around the bay area. We will be having environmental activist guest speakers share their expertise for about 20-30 minutes, followed by a conversation.

Mark your calenders, the planned dates for the forums are:
May 23rd, June 13th, June 27th, & July 11th and will be held from 7-9 PM in our studio, with the guest speaker starting at 7:30.

Our guest speaker for the May 23rd forum is
Antonia Juhasz, she is a leading oil industry expert, a policy-analyst, author and journalist. Juhasz is the author of three books: Black Tide: the Devastating Impact of the Gulf Oil Spill (2011), The Tyranny of Oil (2008), and The Bush Agenda (2006).
