Despite special workshop grants, institutional funding for actual performances continues to shrink. For nearly six decades (and through multiple elections) our free summer park season has remained our touchstone. During this election summer, you will be asked to give money to a variety of campaigns and candidates. Please also consider a generous tax-deductible donation to the San Francisco Mime Troupe in support of our efforts on and offstage. This summer, our goal is to school our fellow citizens on how not to get "schooled" and ultimately "Trumped." It's gonna take more than a village this time around. Join us and support us.

Meanwhile back at the ranch - as rehearsals for Schooled continue, we have been very busy with other projects simultaneously. We just completed 2/3 of the first phase of a foundation-funded project that brings SFMT into 3 varied communities in the Central and Salinas Valleys and charges us to move "Toward an inclusive culture of health through engagement, satirical theater and song". Using our collaborative play making process, two teaching teams, Velina Brown & Mario Gonzales and Ed Holmes & Bob Ernst have each completed the initial two-week-long workshops with students at Golden Valley HS in Merced and inmates at Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad, respectively. Our third team, Wilma Bonet & Hugo E Carbajal will be working with Valley migrant workers - location yet TBD. So far, the participants have enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to showcase their perspectives about both personal and societal health issues onstage. Ultimately the various plays will be performed both in their own communities and eventually become the basis of a script developed by SFMT. Stay tuned.
And: We're also in the final stage of creating a formal Strategic Plan. Following many professionally facilitated sessions the Collective, Board, and Staff have prioritized our goals and are developing strategies that will lead us to a long-term stability and sustainability that will allow us to continue the work we do now and the added projects we are looking forward to doing in the future.
And speaking of the future: The recent referendum in Great Britain serves as a reminder of how an uninformed and bigoted electorate can change the future of a country. For us stateside, it's a cautionary tale warning us of a similar result 4 months from now. Now, more than ever, it is essential that we exercise our citizen muscles to educate & activate those voters who can keep us from slipping into a similar fate.
