Mid Summer 2015 Dear Friends, This year our summer show, FREEDOMLAND, asks the questions: - Are the police out of control? What happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? Is a young Black soldier safer in Afghanistan than walking down the streets of his neighborhood? By asking these serious questions from our stage in the parks we hope that we can move from dialogue to the action needed to ensure the rights and fair treatment for all. But as we've said before, doing these free shows costs us a lot of money. In our recent appeal we stated that we needed to raise $55,000 to cover the costs of FREEDOMLAND which included the added cost of the new sound system that is enabling everyone to hear the actors clearly without distortion. To date we have received $27,500. So we are halfway there!!!! But time is running out and our bills are stacking up! You can help us get there in a variety of ways:
- Make a generous donation below. And if you've already given consider a second tax-deductible gift.
-Help spread the word. Tell co-workers, friends and family about us especially the part about us not being silent mimes. We are not silent and never will be! And pick up flyers and posters at our store and distribute them near our remaining park shows.
-Support our shows by attending them. Summer is almost over and you don't want to miss the show!
-Buy our merchandise! This is one case where capitalism is a good thing!

~ Volunteer Now ~
We could use some extra hands to help us unload and reload our truck Labor Day weekend! Or help use hand out programs and surveys! Contact Karen if you can help. ~ Or in the Fall ~
CALLING ALL CHEFS, AMATEUR CHEFS, MAC N' CHEESE MAKERS, or anyone who has interest in supporting youth theater: We are looking for 1-2 volunteers to coordinate Food Donations and Preparations for our Fall Youth Theater Project. The program provides a healthy and delicious meal for all 15 participants each Monday and Wednesday (beginning on Sept. 21st and ending Dec. 5th). As coordinator, you would be in direct contact with our local food donors to manage our meal plan. Our communal meals are yet another way that the Youth Theater Project creates a cooperative community of creative young folks. We would love to carry on this meaningful meal tradition but need your help! If you are interested in coordinating our meal plan for the session or in donating a single meal, please contact: ytp@sfmt.org. |
Our friends at Hard French are hosting a nightlife fundraiser for Galeria de la Raza on August 19th, 9pm - midnight, at El Rio. The fundraiser is in response to the defacing of the 'por vida' mural on the side of the Galeria building, and in support of the work Galeria has done to foster queer Chicano/Latino artists in the Mission. With 11 queer clubs on board to DJ, 100% of the event's proceeds will be going to Galeria de la Raza, and we are hoping this event will raise awareness and visibility of queer people of color in the Mission! See you on the dance floor! Learn more! |
