Mid Summer 2015 Dear Friends, We're halfway through our summer season and the audiences and critics agree:
"The show is high--energy and often hilarious while also serving as a sobering depiction of how entire segments of the population can be automatically seen as a threat because of the color of their skin in this supposedly 'post-racial' society."
"Once again, the San Francisco Mime Troupe has produced an action-initiating play that deserves to be seen far and wide this very summer."
" The laughs, served in a steady flow, are justly earned and make it almost too easily bearable to consider the tragic situation on display."
This year our summer show, FREEDOMLAND, asks the questions: - Are the police out of control? What happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? Is a young Black soldier safer in Afghanistan than walking down the streets of his neighborhood? By asking these serious questions from our stage in the parks we hope that we can move from dialogue to the action needed to insure the rights and fair treatment for all.
But as we've said before, doing these free shows costs us a lot of money. In our recent appeal we stated that we needed to raise $55,000 to cover the costs of FREEDOMLAND which included the added cost of the new sound system that is enabling everyone to hear the actors clearly without distortion. To date we have received $22,000. To cover expenses we still need an additional $33,000 to meet our goal! You can help us get there in a variety of ways:
- Make a generous donation. And if you've already given consider a second tax-deductible gift.
-Help spread the word. Tell co-workers, friends and family about us especially the part about us not being silent mimes. We are not silent and never will be!
-Support our shows by attending them. Summer is flying by and you don't want to miss this one.
-Buy our merchandise! This is one case where capitalism is a good thing!
And most importantly, save our rights by exercising them. Join us as we celebrate our Freedoms of Speech and Assembly in Bay Area parks through Labor Day.
